Cane Fire, 1986

My wife and I take a lot of walks together and one of our favorites is up to a spot called Mook's Look. It's an old Chinese grave with a view that is unparalleled. The road up there is pretty much unused except for hunters and the like. It passes above an old Chinese farm that is now the residence of our neighbors, the Vierras.

One afternoon I caught their place in a full blaze of winter light.
