Collection: North Coast, 1988

A framed composition is always a nice way to go. All around the top and sides of this piece are large dark shapes breaking out of the image. It conveys that the shapes continue on outside the frame of the painting. Lines within those shapes take the eye on down and across the image to meander into the center of interest.

The foreground is a place you can linger in the shade, take a rest and get comfortable. Without much movement, you can have a visit deeper into the piece to a secondary plane of interest out along the coastline. The foreground frames the background like window trim. Although painted back in 1988, North Coast has always remained one of my favorite paintings.
