Collection: Hideaway, 2000
When I was in high school on Oahu, I took a week long trip to Kauai with a surf club. We camped in the Dry Cave in Hanalei Bay while it rained the entire week. In spite of, or maybe because of the rain, it was an unforgettable experience.
When I returned last year with my family, it was like a reunion with my younger self. The Hanalei beaches regarded me as if thirty years had not passed. Playing with my children in the mysterious turqoise of Lumahai, I was still 16. This painting is an expression of that reunion.
