Collection: Molokai Roof Pigeons, 2001

Every so often pigeons take to the air, circle around for a time as if in formation and then settle back down. They give a sense of scale to Molokai's deeply engraved ridge lines. The rural elements, the old plantation houses, the sleepy Hawaiiana are all the sort of things that I love to paint. This home is along the south shore heading toward the east end of the island.

We took some time off on Molokai a few years back only to discover that the island was full of things to paint. I did a few sketches just to get the ideas down on paper. This one I've had in my file for years. Every time I'd come across the sketch, I wanted to paint it, but for some reason, this month was the month.
