Night Palm, 1987

I have a friend named Thomas Kekoa whose family has a house down by the water in Kealekekua. It's a very old termite-ridden place with brackish water in the pipes and an old Hawaiian steam bath out back. Out on the lava beach at night, I found my eyes drawn to a palm tree lit up by an old street light. It reflected across the water. It's kind of like sitting around a fireplace. You tend to stare at the fire.
