Collection: Moloka'i Calm, 2009
The point of view of this painting is from a small bridge on the east end of Moloka'i. This is the kind of scenery you will miss if you're driving by in a car. It goes by faster than you can take it in. On Moloka'i, it's best to slow way down and match your pace to the rhythm of the island. Otherwise you will miss much of the essence of Moloka'i. I've always felt a great affinity for Moloka'i because of its rural and natural beauty and the resident's deep willingness to keep it that way. If ever there was an appropriate use of the phrase "less is more", it applies perfectly to Moloka'i, if not all the Hawaiian islands. I painted this rendering of Waialua Stream in an homage to the eternal stillness of the east side.
