Collection: Poi For Julia, 1987
Taro fields really get my attention. There's a beauty in the utility there that I think is unintentional. The taro farmers want the water to puddle in each pond and overflow into the next pond, going lower and lower across the hillside. They keep the pathways mowed and they weed the water ways so that they won't clog. It's manicured for utility, not trying to be beautiful.
The only food my baby daughter Julia would accept, besides mother's milk, was poi which is made from taro.
